What does it do?
Adds functionality to the Cubic Food printers you see around. I suspect these were supposed to have functionality at one point because they’re already activators in the base game, they just had no scripts or items attached.
So I’ve attached a script to them. I’ve made them work similarly to other vending machines (reasoning why in a moment), so you just go up to one, pay your credits, and it’ll randomly dispense some food for you. Like vending machines, they have a limit (UC and Freestar imposed limits for health and safety!), but will reset frequently for you to use again.
The Cubic Food replicator can create for you any served meal in the game. Yes, including exclusives – sort of. This mod adds unbranded versions of exclusive meals, and a custom loot list with all served meals, that the replicator draw from to dispense food.
Why a vending machine and not a menu:
The easiest answer is because this was the simplest and quickest route, ngl. However, I also felt that the exclusivity of some of these meals are genuinely a part of game design. It gives locations unique flavour (uh, pun unintended). Being able to buy any exclusive anywhere ever at will feels like it cheapens that. So instead, the replicator works by random chance and only up to a maximum of 7 items per day. You can still very easily spam them to get all the exclusive items if that’s really what you want to do, but otherwise it doesn’t discourage you from going to specific locations for their signature food.
The new food:
Is identical to vanilla counterparts, just with references to brands and locations removed. It isn’t special in any way, but it felt more fun if the replicator could make more than 3 meals. The replicator will not print any crafted food, by the way. If you want crafted food, you still need to craft that yourself or find it around.
Notes:
There’s a known quirk that if you have the item you’re about to mod loaded in the cell you last saved your game in, sometimes mods won’t properly apply to that cell until a refresh. Not really anything I can do about that, sorry. If you saved next to a food printer and it doesn’t work so good for you on loading, try leaving the area entirely and coming back.
