WARNING: Certain versions of this mod can make derelicts quite difficult, I do not recommend bringing a Survival or Perma-Death character into a derelict without testing this mod on Normal first.
This is a BETA Version of a Difficulty Overhaul mod I am making for NMS. I’m quite new to the game, but I consistently hear conversations and see posts about how easy the game is, even on perma-death – so I decided to make a mod to overhaul damage rates and health modifiers to create harder creatures, and an increased survival experience for those who like that type of thing.
The idea is to completely change how we play the game by increasing properties of creatures to make them much harder, this will actually make things like derelicts a challenge, and eventually I plan to increase spawn rates of certain creatures. I want to make fiends harder to kill, and I want to fix predators so they actually attack, and they do more damage. I may even up their scale so they are larger – like dinosaurs.
I would like feedback on the current version of the mods, how I should adjust the values to make it more balanced; and what else you want added.
I am planning to have versions for parties, so singleplayer, 2, 3 and 4 player parties; as well as an “Ultimate Mode” that is super hard to get through.
Right now their are two creatures that have been changed, and one setting for freighters.
I need assistance in balancing the mod, I need help testing and balancing values so we ensure it’s difficult, but possible; and most importantly, fun.

Scuttler health: 600 > 7000 Increasing the health this far seems to be good for 2 player parties, but it is highly dependent on mods. We played with 3S-Class mods for a scatter blaster, and we each had 3 shields. Your results may, and will vary depending on what equipment you have.
Scuttler Damage: 10 > 27 This allows them to kill you fairly quickly, and if you pop multiple sacks you will have a good chunk of your shields taken down by the time you try to re-treat to a corridor. This seems to be the go-to strategy from my testing with others, everyone re-treats to another room and holds off the wave from their.
DroneHealth: 2800 > 5000 I haven’t tested this feature yet, but Drone health should increase base sentinel drone health. I plan to increase it further, and possibly increase how many Sentinels spawn when a new wave comes in. What do you think?
FiendMaxAttackers: 2 > 4 By default fiends (biological horrors; AKA Whispering egg creatures) only allow 2 of them to attack you at once. I added this option and haven’t had a chance to test it yet, but it should allow 4 to attack you at once, and I plan to mess with fiends further in the future to add more damage to their hits and increase their health.
One of my favorite changes is one I made to the derelicts. I absolutely hate how slow you walk inside derelicts, so I’ve changed it so you have your mobility back, you can run and walk the same speeds you can on planets.
GroundWalkSpeedLowG: 1.6 > 4.4
GroundRunSpeedLowG: 3.5 > 8
I’m curious what everyone thinks these values should be changed to, as well as what else I should change. Pirate ship damage? Sentinel drones? Sentinel walkers? Derelict freighter turrets? What should I change?
I had an idea to change turrets to be a 1-shot kill…they are very easy to avoid so this could be a cool challenge to have, as if you have to avoid them. I’ve also been given an idea to up the scanning range so they always detect and shoot you, instead of the 1-hit kill. I like this idea, however I’m having a tough time finding scanning properties in the MBIN’s. What do we think, what do you want?
