Immersive Stores – Catalog Remover V1.0

Immersive Stores - Catalog Remover V1.0

This mod aims to create a more realistic buying experience by immersively removing the catalog.

Why?
Well, I had made this mod for myself a while back, but I wanted to share it with everyone so your games could be more immersive. Simply put, store catalogs would not have been realistic for general stores at the time as most of their stock would’ve been out in the open. The game’s catalog is based off a mail order catalog, but you don’t use it to order things from the mail.

I want you to ask yourself: Have you ever even walked into a general store just to look at a catalog?! How many old westerns involve the character going up to the counter and looking at a damn catalog? That’s right, none. This mod aims to replicate that experience.

As some of you may know, I made a mod that makes the catalog look more realistic, but I realized that simply doing that isn’t good enough because stores from the 1890s shouldn’t have catalogs at all, and especially not front-and-center on the counter.

If there’s no catalogs, how do I buy stuff?
Easily! Rockstar actually designed the game around not having catalogs. Just pick up the items from the store shelves instead! Now, this does mean a few items will be left out, like clothes and guns. You can see a full, comprehensive list of unavailable items in the section below.

Wait, I can’t buy clothes or guns?!
Well you can, it’s just a little more tucked away. Right clicking the shopkeeper and holding the button you normally use to open the catalog when near the counter will activate a failsafe that will open up the catalog like normal.

Alternatively, you can buy your clothes and guns before installing this mod or go to https://socialclub.rockstargames.com/games/rdr2/catalogue/ and sign in with your social club account to buy clothes and guns that way. Honestly though, you really shouldn’t be buying guns anyways because the game gives you them free as you progress and sometimes you can loot them off NPCs.

Will this mod break anything?
Nope! Well, there are two missions in the game that require you to buy things from the catalog. In order to complete these missions, simply right click the shopkeeper and activate the failsafe button (The “buy from shop” button. It is hold E by default) and things will go on like normal.

Without further ado, here’s a list of all the items that are affected by this mod:
Only premium cigarettes can be bought from store shelves. Regular cigarettes are now only obtainable through looting.
Arrows, guns, and the premium holster + gunbelt could only be bought from the catalog. Express ammo can only be bought from the Tumbleweed gunsmith.
The coffee percolator could only be bought from the catalog.
The lake lure can now only be obtained from the shop in Lagras.
Cocaine Gum can now only be bought from doctors, the shop in Lagras, and the Wallace Station store.
Mature Venison, Pork Loin and Prime Beef Joints are now only available from the butcher.
The Rhodes general store no longer sells clothes, pears, baked beans, canned peaches, canned corn, apricots, kidney beans, gun oil, pocket watches, cover scent lotion, bait, gin, offal, salmon, crackers, or tonics. Carrots can be obtained from the nearby stables.
The Valentine general store no longer sells clothes, peaches, hair tonic, pineapples, strawberries, corned beef, peas, kidney beans, apricots, or brandy.
The Strawberry general store no longer sells clothes, candy, cheese, peaches, corn, hair tonic, bread rolls, pineapples, corned beef, pears, rum, brandy, chocolate, gun oil, ammunition, tonics, offal, salmon, kidney beans, or apricots.
The Blackwater general store no longer sells ammunition, tonics, corn, bread rolls, pineapples, strawberries, pears, baked beans, canned corn, pocket watches, offal, or salmon.

The Saint Denis general store no longer sells peaches, hair pomade, hair tonic, pineapples, strawberries, corned beef, canned peaches, canned corn, kidney beans, apricots, offal, or the pocket watch. Apples and carrots can be bought at the nearby stables, or market. Corn and pears can be bought at the nearby market. Baked beans and salmon can be bought at the nearby Van Horn Fence. Horse reviver can be bought at the nearby stables. Salted Beef and Venison can be bought at the butcher just outside, and predator/herbivore bait + cover scent lotion can be bought at the nearby Trapper. Fish bait can still be bought from the Lagras shop.

The Tumbleweed general store no longer sells clothes, tonics, candies, cheese, peaches, biscuits, hair tonic, bread rolls, pineapple, corned beef, peas, pears, baked beans, canned peaches, cigars, rum, brandy, chocolate, pocket watches, offal, salmon, crackers, kidney beans, or apricots.

The Valentine Doctor no longer sells Potent Health Cures or Potent Miracle Tonics, but these can be bought from the Saint Denis doctor. Neither doctor sells Potent Bitters or Bitters, meaning they must be crafted. You can still purchase Snake Oil and Potent Snake Oil from the nearby fence, and you can purchase all of the horse tonics at the nearby stables or the Lagras shop.

The Wallace Station store now only sells bourbon, biscuits, crackers, tobacco, premium cigarettes, pomade, salted beef, salted venison, and cocaine gum

The Armadillo general store now only sells biscuits, crackers, cigars, chewing tobacco, predator and herbivore bait, bourbon, pomade, and regular ammunition.

I know this list may look confusing, but just try the mod! Really take a look around in the shops, and visit shops you previously never thought about visiting before and see what you can find! This is immersion at its finest.
