RDRII – CLEAN LIGHT is a custom made ReShade shader inspired from my ENBs work, focusing mainly on correcting the colors, reworking environment lighting and adding high quality post processing, while staying true to the original art direction.
RDRII – CLEAN LIGHT is a ReShade I made with custom code acting as a “mini-ENB” to target very specific changes:
Cleaner tonemapping (LOG untonemap + John Hable) with lossless contrast – no black crush or blown out white
Color tints & vignette reduced.
Equalized colors with natural wavelength proportions – muddy shades dynamically removed.
Improved lighting with more detailed shadows – enhanced textures in foreground – colors and details scaterring in the background.
Reworked skies, fog and foregrounds with more natural landmass / Skies ratio to be more pronounced, improving the feel of wide spaces and immersion.
Optimized custom made SSGI: Screen Space Global Illumination & Image Based Lighting, faky screen-space ray tracing, to add more details into close lighting
Day and Night settings toggeable with a simple key press, with Purkinje shift for low light conditions & dark shades. More info in the Shortcuts section below.
Optimized for gameplay – Nothing paywalled – Free for All !
INSTALLATION:
! DO NOT USE THIS MOD ONLINE !
this reshade hacks too deep into the game’s process and may be flagged as a cheat
It’s best and safer if you uninstall any ReShade you may already have installed.
First select which version you need depending of which graphic API you use ingame: Dx12 or Vulkan.
From there A ReadMe is included in each folder with specifics instructions.
Don’t worry tho, it’s mostly just about moving a content from a folder into your Red Dead Redemption folder
To uninstall simply delete the same files you installed: “dxgi.dll” (only if you installed the Dx12 version), “ReShade.ini” and the “CLEANLIGHT” folder.
Obviously expect more or less performance hit depending of your hardware and game resolution !
SHORTCUTS:
INSERT: TOGGLE NIGHT TIME SETTINGS: A little icon will show in the lower left corner of the screen when enabled.
Using night settings for night time is higly recommended but not mandatory, and you can also use it during daytime if you prefer the look of it.
Whatever you like the most is best.
END : toggle reshade UI
SCROLL LOCK : toggle all effects
PRINTSCREEN : take a screenshot in png, located into your Red Dead Redemption main folder.
Depth of Field is preset and ready to use but disabled by default.
To enable it simply open the menu with End key, unroll the Lens category and click the Depth of Field checkbox.
Toggle it using HOME key.
F.A.Q:
Q: What are the performance ?
A: I can only answer for myself as it depends of the system you are running, your resolution and game’s option.
Clean Light costs me around 5-7 FPS depending of the situation on a I5-13600k, 32Gb-DDR5 6000Mhz & 4070Ti at rasterized1440p all graphics options maxed out. My game is locked on 60fps Vsync and stays that way.
Q: How can I have better performances without too much visual loss ?
A: Open the interface with End key, unroll ENVIRONMENT tab and uncheck the SCREEN SPACE GLOBAL ILLUMINATION box.
If not enough then unroll the LENS tab and uncheck the ENABLE LENS checkbox.
Q: There is weird strips in characters hairs and horses sometimes
A: This are artefacts from the SSGI shader, so far I haven’t come with a proper solution to denoise this kind of meshes/game’s shaders.
Either disable SSGI as explained above or just don’t pay attention like I do.
Q: There is black spots on the game menu, the map, and sometime I can see the landscape or my character through the map or during the sleeping animation.
A: ReShade depth access (which is an absolute requirement for my shaders to work) can be pretty dirty sometimes and there is nothing I can do about it for the moment.
