POIs in Starfield repeat themselves often and are exact replicas with dead bodies, data slates, terminals and other lore repeating themselves. This mod helps to solve this issue by creating many variations of each vanilla POI and only allowing the lore filled vanilla versions of POIs to appear once.
The thought process behind this mod is that if 20 variations of each POI were made, then we would have well over 1000 POIs and we wouldn’t even remember a repeat if we saw one. And then once you add in the restriction this mod introduces which is that the vanilla lore filled POIs can only appear once, this effectively solves the repeating POI issue (although I’d love it if Bethesda added procedurally generated POIs).
This mod is currently in ALPHA which means it has not been thoroughly tested and may contain bugs. New updates are expected every week. (ALPHA: only Cryo Lab, Muybridge Lab, Abandoned Mine & Abandoned Weapon System have variations so far and they only have a few variations right now).
This mod makes the following changes:
Each vanilla POI that has lore in it can only appear once (TBC if this means visit it once or generated at a landing zone once)
Each vanilla POI that has lore in it/feels repetitive has multiple variations that include: different loot locations, different clutter locations, different enemy locations, different number of enemies. In some variations these changes are subtle and in others they are large.
In POI variations any interior cells (these are locations that require a loading screen) have been removed. This was purely to save time and because I don’t know how to get them to work properly.
POI variations have been renamed to more generic names so that they are consistent with the lore. E.g. Cryo Lab is now called Abandoned Lab because the cryogen lab section has been removed.
Future changes:
Every POI with lore/that has a repititive feeling will have variations added
POI variations will be added to mission boards
Interior cells might be added, but only if other people work on this with me as it will be too time consuming otherwise.
The next POI to be tackled is the Deserted UC Listening Post
Lore explanation for POI variations:
The lore reason I’ve made why POI variations make sense is because POIs are prefabs that also come with decorations and storage space. Unfortunately there is no Space IKEA that delivers furniture to remote planets. However as people live in these POIs there are some more minor furniture differences that the inhabitants will have.
Requests from community:
Let me know of any POIs that contain lore that haven’t been tackled by this mod yet
Let me know the POIs you would like me to tackle next
Let me know if items/clutter in the POI variations are buggy or do not ‘look right’
Let me know if there are any non-enemy POIs that have lore that repeat
Installation notes
PIP (POI Integration Project) is a requirement for this mod. However this mod does not currently use a PIP node, and this is because the POI variations would not display correctly when using a PIP node. The implication of this is that if you are using any other mods that are adding POIs, they must make use of PIP. If they don’t use PIP then this mod must be after the other mod in your load order.
I do not know if this will work with other mods like Desolation as I haven’t tested it. There aren’t any conflicts I know of though.
WARNING: If you remove any mod that adds POIs (including this one), do not load the game while you are in one of the added POIs after you’ve removed the mod. It will cause your follower to disappear.
Note: I have created this mod really for myself, but I’m sharing it with the community since it solves the biggest issue with the game. Im open to having others collaborate with me on this. The best case scenario is that Bethesda create there own solution to this and I won’t have to make this mod anymore lol.
I am not an experienced modder, I only learnt how to mod so that I could solve this problem, so please have patience and expect bugs. I’m open to suggestions in the Posts area but will only implement suggestions consistent with the Starfield lore and that make sense time-wise.
