Ladders: what are they good for? Climbing where you need to go! What are they bad at? Thinking. Don’t let ladders do the thinking!
You’ve built this awesome base right, and you’ve got ladders going all over the place because, well, why not. And it’s your first time taking a walk-through tour, but AUGH NO!!! THE LADDER MONSTER HAS GRABBED ME AGAIN!!! STOP, LADDER-PI, NOT NOW WHILE COMPANY IS OVER!!!
Let’s be honest, this has happened to you, and it will happen again. This is why we need No Ladder Auto-Attaching! Tell that evil ladder who’s boss, and make it obey YOU! No more fumbling for the escape word button, no more walking halfway up into the next cavity in your base before realizing you actually wanted to go down. Make that ladder mind it’s own F#%!ng business!
Sorry, I just came back from one of these maddening events myself, and decided to remake the mod that does this, last made by Methatronc, like Bandus before them, and Zonerider before them… There have now been 4 mods that do this since this horrible “feature” was introduced in 2019! Now working with the latest version: No Man’s Sky: Prisms, 3.51!
Installation:
navigate to “\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\No Man’s Sky\GAMEDATA\PCBANKS”
remove or rename DISABLEMODS.TXT file inside “PCBANKS”
create a “MODS” folder inside “PCBANKS” if it does not exist
copy/paste included .pak file into this “MODS” folder
Launch NMS and enjoy!
Alternately, there is a .lua file included with each version for use with AMUMSS! Follow the instructions for that utility for mod installation. This script should help future-proof the mod. I highly recommend using this utility to merge your mods!
Technical:
This mod modifies the GCCHARACTERGLOBALS.GLOBAL.MBIN file and will conflict with any other mods that also try to modify that file.
The effect is achieved by setting the number LadderDistanceToAutoMount to 0, effectively disabling the feature
The ability to interact with a ladder is still there, and is now the only way to climb a ladder (aside from using the jetpack, of course)
