As a player using the gog’s offline installer, I was disappointed to see all that was removed from the functionalities, especially considering the gameplay.
For instance, the titles from the last update were weird, ( “Explorer” with everything ), the systems were discovered by Explorer @GOG and so on and so forth..
Here I will tell you how to :
_change your username.
_get rid of the gog icon that, in my opinion, breaks the immersion.
1) The Username
First, you will need HxD, a software that lets you see the code of an executable and edit it.
Then, you have to open the software, open NMS.exe with it, ( CTRL+O ), press CTRL+F and switch to the hexadecimal values as shown in this picture.
Look for this : 45 78 70 6C 6F 72 65 72 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
The non-00 are for “Explorer”, that you can see in the decoded text panel on the right. That is what you can edit : from the 45 to the last 00 before the following 25. Edit directly into the decoded text panel : put your cursor just before the “E”, write your name : it will apply to the whole game, so every saves will use that name. The soft will translate in hexa and when you save it will generate a NMS.exe.bak in case you missed something,( but do backup your .exe just in case! ).
! DO NO EDIT AFTER OR BEFORE ! Only the values in the blue rectangle on the right panel.
If you do, the game will most likely crash or be broken and might corrupt your save, you don’t want that.
2) The GOG Icon
Just use the file in the download section I provided, unzip it and put the “No GOG Logo.pak” in the MODS section as usual,( see here if you have a doubt).
It will remove the logo and let you have a regular game, without the gog stamp put everywhere,( I love them but it’s a bit too much in my opinion).
Tested with Desolation 2.61.1, it should be compatible with anything that does not edit \TEXTURES\UI\FRONTEND\CROSSPLAY\PLATFORM.GOG.DDS
