Ambient Horses

Ambient Horses

Adds over a hundred ambient horse coats to the game

Tired of seeing the same fifteen horses in towns or in the wild? This is the mod for you! Not only does the mod increase the number of ambient horses greatly, it gets rid of some of the bad looking horses that break your immersion and you’ll even be able to get rid of horses that aren’t period-accurate such as the Turkoman. I wanted to make it so every horse was unique, whether it be from markings or coloring, so there may be some that stand out from time to time. Certain coat colors are rarer than others, so black and chestnut are the most common while white, palomino, and blue roan are extremely rare. Here’s a list of all the breeds in the mod and the changes made, keep in mind that 99% of these are coats I custom made using Vanilla textures and colors to increase compatibility with other horse mods:

Quarter Horses – A staple of the Wild West, this is the most common breed of horse you will find being ridden by NPCs.

Missouri Fox Trotters – These horses were somewhat commonly found in the Old West. The Vanilla Fox Trotter model looked kind of bad in my opinion, so I used Baylock’s model instead.

Mustangs – I used Maggie’s model for the Mustang, and gave them regular looking hair so they would blend in better with the other horses as well as removing the feathers. They’re also commonly found in the wild and will have a chance to be skinnier than normal.

Tennessee Walkers – This horse breed is relatively unchanged, but there’s slightly more ambient variants now.

American Saddlebred – Same deal as the Tennessee Walker. I’m not a huge fan of how this breed looks in-game so they’re decidedly rarer than some of the others.

Morgan – As more extravagant horses, you will see them less frequently than most; I also adjusted their size to be more sensible.

Thoroughbred – More common than the Morgans, I kept this breed mostly unchanged.

Arabian – The rarest horse for NPCs to ride, I gave them slightly rarer coats due to how infrequently they should appear.

American Paint – These horses can be found in the wild or being ridden by NPCs, though they are typically skinnier in the wild and their hair is matted.

Appaloosas – Though these horses are typically ridden by Native Americans, NPCs will rarely ride them and you can more frequently find them in the wild where they will be skinnier.

Mules – Mules will spawn in their normal locations, but I added a few more variants (despite how hard it was to do so because of how the coat is) as well as increased their size and they will be frequently found pulling wagons.

Shires – Pretty much unchanged from Vanilla, though you will see them less frequently.

Belgian Draft – I added an extra coat and changed their hair, pretty much it.

Percheron – Very rarely seen pulling carts.

DISCLAIMER: Due to the way this mod works, if you see a horse you like please use the optional individual files and look for the horse you found, otherwise the horse will change every time you die/reset the game. Also worth noting that there’s no way I could get stat cards to work, so the breed name might not reflect what the horse actually is. The stats of these horses will be those of regular horses, so you can’t just steal an Arabian and have a really good horse right off the bat.

The main file doesn’t change horses used in stables or random encounters, so I would recommend using a combination of the individual files and this for the best experience.

Installation:
Drop the files inside your LML > stream folder

Requires:
Scripthook RDR2
Version.dll

Individual Files
Use this if you want to save a specific horse as your own, can also be used to replace horses from random encounters or stables.
