Legacy’s End – Wild Card V1.0

Legacy's End - Wild Card

What if there was a way to keep Kryx’s Legacy for yourself?

Main Features
— A quest with 693 lines of dialogue that serves as an alternate ending to the Crimson Fleet questline
— An epilogue quest with 200 lines of dialogue that reacts to your choices
— Be warned, certain choices will lock you out of most of the epilogue
— Optional mini-quest involving the Freestar Collective, with 35 lines of dialogue
— Another optional mini-quest involving an agent of House Va’ruun, with 43 lines of dialogue
— Vivian Reed as the voice of Kaia.

Details

The 4 main Constellation companions have interjections, and affinity reactions. They all have mostly the same amount of dialogue. This is all done with vanilla voice assets, as is the case for all other quest characters except Kaia, who is voice acted.

There are 43 unique dialogue choices for various skills, traits, and backgrounds.

The Freestar and Va’ruun mini-quests are mutually exclusive to each other, but they are available regardless of what traits or background you have. Anyone who has completed the Freestar Rangers questline or has [Serpent’s Embrace] status will have a couple of opportunities for unique dialogue.

Shattered Space is not a dependency, and as such, it is not possible to account for all of the possible Shattered Space endings. If your character has completed the events of the DLC prior to interacting with the Va’ruun NPC included in this mod, the NPC will not be aware of this.

Turning in evidence against Crimson Fleet captains to Lt. Toft still affects whether or not you will meet them in battle.

Combat is designed to be challenging, and not just due to the level and number of enemies you face. I recommend saving often. If you want specific details, they can be found in the light spoilers section at the bottom of this description.

I also recommend using a ship that has a docking port on top (not side or front). This will provide the best possible viewing angle at a certain point in the quest.

Quest Startup and Shutdown

This mod is dormant and inactive during most of the Crimson Fleet questline, up until the quest Eye of the Storm. Upon exiting the GalBank Legacy ship interior, the quest “Legacy’s End – Wild Card” will start automatically. It functions the same whether you have already been kicked out of SysDef or not, with a couple minor exceptions.

Grav jumping to the UC Vigilance or to The Key at any time prior to this quest’s point of no return will lock you in to the UC SysDef or Crimson Fleet endings respectively, and the quest will be marked as failed, then shut down. (You might notice a new NPC walking around Neon, though)

This quest’s point of no return happens in dialogue. The dialogue choice is clearly prefixed with [Commit]. Once you select it, there’s no going back.

Compatibility and Interactions With Other Mods

Overrides of vanilla records have been left to a minimum, and no vanilla quests or scripts are modified. As such, this should be mostly load order neutral, but as a general rule, large quest mods should go near the top of your load order. If you want specifics on exactly what vanilla records have been overridden, see the articles section.

If I don’t specifically mention a mod here, consider it fully compatible without limitation.

Space combat is balanced around the player having only one ship. If you use a mod like Fleet Commander or Watchtower to bring an entire fleet of friendly ships, you might find space combat to be very easy.

Fast travel is disabled at certain points throughout this mod’s quest, for both technical and narrative reasons. If you use other mods or use the COC console command to attempt to bypass these fast travel restrictions, you will potentially break the quest. (Example: some mods allow you to teleport to your ship from anywhere.)

Interaction with mods that allow you to bring multiple companions – I highly recommend only bringing one companion with you. Companions are scripted to move to exact locations for certain dialogue scenes, but this will only work for one companion (whoever is in your main slot). If you bring more than one, they will potentially get in the way during dialogue, and during combat. Also, depending on which mod you are using, companions might talk over each other during interjections.

Interaction with Useful Brigs – Under no circumstances should you try to subdue a friendly, named quest NPC and send them to your brig. If they are already hostile to you, then fair game. As far as taking unnamed NPCs prisoner: my quest attempts to clean up after itself by disabling certain enemy bodies after the quest progresses past a certain point. If you have taken some of these enemies prisoner and they are in your brig when they get disabled, they will potentially break your brig, causing you to be unable to turn them in, or add new prisoners. If you want exact details on which enemies you can and can’t take prisoner, see the spoilers section at the bottom.

Interaction with Dark Universe – Crossfire – I will have to get into light spoilers to discuss the potential interaction between the two mods. See the spoilers section at the bottom. If you don’t want any spoilers at all, all I can say is the probability of the mods interacting with each other is medium-to-low, but if they do, it can potentially mess up my mod’s quest progression.

Light Spoilers Ahead

This section will discuss interactions with Useful Brigs and Dark Universe – Crossfire, and contains light spoilers. I’m also going to talk about combat balance a little.

Useful Brigs – almost all of the enemies you fight from the time you select [Commit] in dialogue, to the point where you get back to your ship, will be disabled at a later time. If you took any of these enemies prisoner, I recommend either releasing them from your brig, or turning them in before you progress the quest to the point where you travel to a certain space station.

If you still have some of these enemies in your brig at a certain point after boarding the space station, they will be disabled, and potentially break your brig. Any enemies you face after traveling to the space station can be safely taken prisoner without limitation. However, certain enemies are immune to EM damage, and immune to social skills.

Dark Universe – Crossfire – My quest adds a new space cell where vanilla space encounters are not allowed to happen. Due to the way DU – Crossfire works, it can potentially cause its custom space encounters to spawn in cells where encounters are supposed to be disallowed.

If you intend to use both mods at the same time – you will reach a certain point in my quest where you have to grav jump to a space station. Make a save immediately before grav jumping. Upon jumping in, you should see the station, 5 friendly ships close to the station, and some icy asteroids. If you see anything on top of this, then DU – Crossfire has injected a space encounter into the cell, and I highly recommend reloading the save you made before grav jumping, to prevent the space encounter from interfering with the events that are about to unfold.

Combat Balance – some of the enemies you will face don’t play fair. They will fire at you indiscriminately while being surrounded by non-hostile, innocent NPCs. Unless you are very careful with your fire, it is possible to inadvertently shoot a non-hostile NPC and incur unwanted bounties and aggro from security guards, which will make everything harder. I also recommend completely forgoing the use of explosives and offensive Starborn powers in these situations, as it is very easy to clip an innocent with them
