Hawkmoon – the Exotic handcannon from Destiny 2, now in Starfield!
This is a near 1:1 recreation, including:
Model and textures
Equipping and firing sound
Unique holo dot iron sight
Rare, Legendary and exclusive Exotic perk
Alloy Magazine
Faster reload when the magazine is empty.
* 20% reload time reduction. Reloading Hawkmoon without this perk takes 2.74s, exactly as in Destiny 2.
Rangefinder
Aiming this weapon improves its effective range.
* +10% range when using iron sight. Does not magnify when aiming though.
Paracasual Shot
This is an Exotic perk exclusive to Hawkmoon in Destiny 2, faithfully recreated in this mod.
Precision shots grant stacks of Paracasual Charge. The final round deals +100% damage with each stack. Stowing Hawkmoon on the last round or reloading removes all stacks.
* Precision shot means headshot on a humanoid enemy, robot or some species of wildlife. Crits also count as Precision shots for balance reason.
* In Destiny 2, Hawkmoon gains nonlinear bonus up to +1730% damage at 7 stacks, which is an overkill in Starfield. It is changed to a fixed +100% per stack, up to +700% at 7 stacks.
There is a visual and audio cue when gaining the first stack of Paracasual Charge.
Weapon Customization
The default damage of Hawkmoon is 90. You can go to any weapon workbench and change the damage modifier up to +100% and down to -90% to compensate for your progression and difficulty setting.
How to acquire
Craft at any industrial workbench for 5000 credits. I know you probably want to get Hawkmoon right here and now, so there’s no need to put it into a levelled list or trader inventory lol.
If you have Workbench Filter Framework (WFF) installed, the crafting recipe goes into Ranged Weapons category.
Known Issues
Holo dot iron sight can be hard to spot in well-lit environment, especially under daylight in the wild. Use the two glow dots and the front sightpost to acquire the target in that case.
Holo dot will vanish when aiming at objects too far away. This is because the holo dot is implemented using the laser sight mechanics on MagShot, which has a distance limit on the dot particle.
Aim and reload sound effects are reused from MagShot. Surprisingly, changing them would require reverse engineering the new animation system in Starfield and that’s something too out of scope for this mod.
Installation
Install with mod manager of your choice, or copy files manually if you know what you are doing (.ba2 files goes next to .esm files)
Put the main file (Hawkmoon.esm) into your load order.
Go to any industrial workbench to craft the weapon for 5000 credits.
Uninstallation
Unequip Hawkmoon (make sure you have unequipped the weapon, not just holstered)
Remove Hawkmoon.esm from your load order
Compatibility
Works with a new game or existing saves.
The mod is standalone and should not conflict with other mods.
Merging with other plugins requires special attention, see technical details section.
Technical details
Hawkmoon.esm: The plugin name cannot be changed and merging requires extra steps because it contains:
– WWise Soundbank
The mod reuses MagShot aim model and aim assist models.
