This mod adds a new breed of horse that will replace the Arabians in the game. It comes with custom names for the coats, the breed, and a new compendium entry. KEEP IN MIND DESPITE THE CHANGES TO THE NOMENCLATURE IT IS STILL A REPLACER. It will get rid of all available Arabians in the game.
The Heartlander horse is a fictional horse breed I’ve based in the RDR2 universe. Wealthy settlers in the Heartlands wanted a perfect cross between the most luxurious Mustangs and Hungarian Halberd’s available at the time, wanting to create a versatile horse that excelled at work and draft, but could also travel long distances and keep a calm demeanor in front of danger. Prioritizing the descendants of lines with a lot of Arabian genes, they achieved a mix with not only good stamina and strength, but also great health and speed. The result was the Heartlander horse, a horse with the build of a Hungarian Halfbred and the feathering and coat variety of a mustang, still maintaining the handling and attributes of their Arabian ancestors.
WHAT EXACTLY IS THIS MOD?
This mod is a replacer for all Arabian horses. They feel out of place in the game, and I personally prefer bigger horses. So what began as a custom Hungarian Halfbred to be used in the end game in my free roam fun, evolved into a full new fictional horse breed based on my preference for feathering and more extravagant coats.
It not only replaces models and textures, it also replaces the name of the original breed. You won’t be riding an Arabian that looks like a Hungarian Halfbred with feathering, you’ll actually be riding a horse named Heartlander, with the coat names reflecting their actual coats, and a custom compendium entry that reflects the new appearance and history of the breed.
The changes though are mostly cosmetic. I have made no changes to stats in any way. At least not to my knowledge. If I have notify me and I’ll do my best to revert them.
COATS EDITED
This mod alters the Black Turkoman Textures and the Arabian Red Chestnut Textures. This will alter the textures of some horses in the game. According to the list I’ve got, the horses affected are: Hungarian Halfbred Flaxen Chestnut, Tennessee Walker Chestnut and the Thoroughbred Blood Bay. I think it affects the head texture particularly, but I may be wrong, I haven’t tested it. So keep in mind you may see changes in these horses, their heads specifically, and if you have a mod that adds the Black Turkoman into the game it will have a different skin. Again, these changes are an unfortunate secondary effect of how horse textures work in the game, and I won’t be fixing it. Request another mod author to do it or do it yourself.
REQUIREMENTS
For this mod to work you’ll need Lenny’s Mod Loader and String Translator. No longer necessary thanks to bolju.
INSTALLATION
1. Download the file.
2. Head to your installation folder. Quickest way is to enter your launcher, depending on which you use the procedure will be different:
2.1. Steam Launcher: Right click your game, head to properties, local files, and browse local files.
2.2. Rockstar Launcher: Go to settings on the top right corner, click on Read Dead Redemption II, and view installation folder.
3. Install LML and String Translator.
4. Drop the contents of the .rar file of my mod inside the installation folder. All necessary folders and subfolders already come included.
