Spacing Apparatus is a lightweight, highly compatible revamp of the O2 system. Oxygen is now a limited resource in zero-atmosphere environments, and must be managed carefully.
The mod consists of an interplay between two systems: a Reserve and a Drain. They are covered in detail below.
Features:
The mod functions entirely through perks applied to the player. No vanilla records are touched.
Real Time Form Patcher is used to apply various category keywords to Suit Packs.
The mod only takes effect in locations that are neither Sealed nor Breathable.
This references a vanilla condition so will respond to vanilla bugs or bugfixes alike.
The Starfield Community Patch is, as with any mod that references keywords, highly recommended.
Reserves
Your Pack now holds a set amount of O2, varying per category. Categories are largely identical to those in Suit Up.
If Real Time Form Patcher is absent, all packs hold a set amount somewhere in the middle of the range.
The average Pack Reserve will last for about 12 minutes (~3 in-game hours UT).
However, this time is affected by current Drain.
Drain
When you are in a location without breathable air, you will use O2 at a set rate.
This rate is affected by environmental conditions, activities, and your skills.
For example, players with the Wellness or Fitness skills have a lower base rate of O2 use.
However, when exploring on very hot or cold planets, you will use more O2.
When you enter a breathable location, your O2 is quickly replenished to full and control is rescinded.
Therefore, combat or exploration will play out normally in sealed interiors or on planets with atmosphere.
If you own a Vehicle, sitting in it will also replenish your O2.
Regen
Vanilla regeneration has been functionally nullified in zero-atmo to allow the drain to function.
Personal Atmosphere or other vanilla effects will re-enable regen, with slightly less effectiveness.
A new Tier 3 Pack Modification that enables Regen is available.
Starborn Suits will, true to their description in Suit Up, regenerate O2 in a noticeable manner.
CO2 characteristics are currently untouched.
Compability:
Compatible with anything except for mods that do the same exact thing.
Mods that alter regen, capacity, etc will generally stack their bonuses as expected.
Flat boni from other mods may or may not be impactful depending on mode.
Smarter Spacesuit Auto-hide is fully compatible. Most similar mods should also be fine.
Theoretically, if they hid the spacesuit in non-breathable environments, they would be visually inconsistent but still compatible.
Requirements:
Starfield updated to at least 1.14.70 is required.
Real Time Form Patcher is not a hard requirement, but functionality is greatly expanded when it is present.
Suit Up can be considered a modular component of this mod. They will, however, function independently.
Note: If Suit Up is detected, only its notifications will be shown under status effects.
Installation:
Simply install with your mod manager.
Configuration:
There is a Gameplay Option controlling the mod’s state.
[SIMULATION] can be considered hardcore mode. All modifiers and effects are considered and your suit choice and player skills will factor in to how long you can survive in zero-atmo.
[STREAMLINED] strips the mod system back to one feature: You have X amount of oxygen that lasts Y amount of minutes. Chems and suit mods will be more impactful here.
[DISABLED] removes the mod controller systems from the player. The mod does nothing until re-enabled.
