Tactical Weapon Lights V1.0

Tactical Weapon Lights V1.0

Adds weapon lights to various vanilla weapons to supplement the weak helmet light. Only functional for the third-person view.

Weapon-mounted lights were cut from the release version of the game. This mod attempts to restore the cut content by adding flashlight attachment mods for various vanilla weapons that have something that vaguely looks capable of emitting light. As Bethesda did not fully develop the mechanics, there are a few quirks and limitations, most notably, the light is only functional in the third-person view. (See the section on “Limitations and workarounds” below.)

As demonstrated above, when aiming, the helmet light points downward due to the tilt of the head, rather than in the direction of your aim. This mod addresses the issue. The emitted light has also been customised to be less harsh than the vanilla helmet light while offering a wider field of view. The weapon light is independent of the helmet light; you don’t even need to wear a helmet.

The supported weapons are:
– XM-2311
– Eon
– Solstice
– Equinox
– Grendel
– Beowulf
– Kodama
– Drum Beat
– Hard Target
– Tombstone
– AA-99
– Orion
– Pacifier
– Breach
– Big Bang

Most weapons have two versions of the flashlights, which can be crafted using the Weapon Workbench (usually in the “Laser” section): the default Flashlight, which casts a shadowed light, and a “no shadow” version. The Kodama, Tombstone, and Big Bang only have the “no shadow” Flashlight because the gun parts are blocking most of the lights.

When using the “default” Flashlight, certain configurations will block the light and cast a shadow, which can be either immersive or unplayable. Using a short barrel and avoiding muzzle attachments like the silencer helps overcome this issue. Otherwise, you can use the “no shadow” Flashlights, which are compatible with all weapon configurations and are more performance-friendly.

The crafting requirements and the buffs are the same as the basic laser sights.

The flashlight will become active when you aim down sight, and stay on until you swap the weapon, or when the game hides the holstered weapon.

LIMITATIONS AND WORKAROUNDS
– The light only appears when in the third-person view—no workaround for this.
– The light also doesn’t appear when looking through a scope—also, no workaround for this. Reflex sights are ok.
– There’s no way to reposition the weapon light attachment in-game. If your gun configuration is causing excessive shadow, you can either reconfigure your weapon (short barrel, no silencer, etc) or use the “no shadow” flashlight.
– The weapon light stays on after you aim down the sight and remains on if you holster it on your backpack. (This is not an issue for pistols because they get hidden.) Just swap your weapon (use the hotkeys for convenience), and the light will be turned off until you aim down sight again. There’s no direct way to toggle on and off the light. You can make two similar weapons and only put the light on one, and swap as needed using the hotkeys.
– The excessive lens flare when looking from the front is necessary to hide the lack of glow from the weapon light (it also looks cool in the Photo Mode). I can add glow with simple weapon skins, but I don’t have a way to turn off the glow.
– The light uses the laser slot and node, and I have to turn off the cosmetic laser because of the glitchy behaviour when both the light and laser are active.
